What Should a Woman Wear for a Business Portrait?

You’ve decided that it’s time to update your business portrait. The next question that we get is “what should I wear?” For the female executive the options are surprisingly UNLIMITED!

There are a few “guidelines”…but trust us when we tell you that THERE ARE NO RULES!!!

  • Solid colors or small stripes/patterns
  • Any solid color solid blouse
  • Wear simple accessories
  • Glasses? That’s up to you. Since we’re shooting digital we will immediately know if glare is an issue
  • Powder to reduce shine. Bring more to your sitting
  • Bring makeup and hair-care products for touchups and styling

While we have found the guidelines above to work well for many of our corporate headshots and business portrait clients…we want to let you know that YOUR personal style trumps anything that we have said.

Clothing choices for business portrait

New Website? You Need Headshots!

We get this question several times a week from clients interested in updating their business portrait.

Our answer? It doesn’t matter what color you wear. Red. Blue. Green. Purple. Silver/Grey. Yellow Black bow tie. Just wear a tie that you really like. We don’t suggest wearing a tie with the Budweiser ® logo or large polka dots…unless that’s a part of YOUR PERSONAL BRAND. If it is…GO FOR IT!!!

Otherwise, you can wear any color tie. This is especially true since you’re probably going to wear a grey, blue or black suit anyway. More important than the color of the ties is that you know how to tie a good knot. If your tie collection is a little dated you can reach out to Zac and Otis at the Tie Society.
