CEO Portraits for Philips North America

We recently had the opportunity to create an environmental portrait of the CEO of Philips North America. We had previously worked with their team at a shoot we produced in Baltimore last year and it’s always nice when we get to work with a clients on a repeat basis, even though this was their CEO (no pressure). We received the initial contact via email on Friday afternoon and within a few hours we had a shoot scheduled for Tuesday morning. Ultimately we did move the shoot to Wednesday morning to better accommodate the client (we understand the needs of high level executives).

We processed the images in Capture One and delivered the files to the client using our PhotoShelter archive.

Nationwide availability means that we come to you —anywhere in the country. We have photographers positioned in the 30 largest major metropolitan cities in the United States and we provide businesses of all sizes with unique portraits that undoubtedly become part of their professional and personal message.

The Life of a Portrait Photographer

It’s the second week of December and we’re pushing towards the end of what has been a VERY busy year for our portrait studio. In April-June, we worked with a New York based client to create business portraits for 2000 3000 medical professionals. We spent 10 weeks in and out of 48 different offices throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, Long Island and Brooklyn. Honestly, it was a lot of fun.

The work didn’t let up as we did MAJOR assignments for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Philips, Zurich, Wells Fargo, Comcast, Bank of America, and Baker Donelson (to name a few).

We completed portrait assignments in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, and Washington DC.

This week we’ll spend 2 days creating environmental portraits for a large trade association in Washington DC, work with a client in our Baltimore studio, create some collateral marketing imagery for one of our law firm clients that is moving into a new office, and create 14 new portraits and a 6 minute video for one of our long-time Boston based clients.

Friday we’ll unpack, recharge batteries, clean gear and repack to fire back up next week when were back in Baltimore to work with an award winning real-estate client on Monday as well as working with our group of medical professionals in NYC. It’s going to be a long, but productive day.

Tuesday (week of 12/15) we start the final week of shooting for one of our new law-firm clients, which will lead us right up to December 24th. We’ll take a few days off for the Christmas Holiday but jump right back in on 12/29 with our medical professionals.

This is the way our entire 2014 has gone. We’re not complaining…in fact, we’re looking forward to an even busier 2015!

On Assignment for a Washington DC Law Firm

On Friday we the opportunity to complete a shoot for our Washington DC client that had to be postponed due to the snow storm earlier in the week. We had a great relationship with this client so we understood when the schools was cancelled that our shoot would be delayed. We prepped our gear for the shoot Thursday afternoon and packed the car. Since the shoot was early I met my assistant at the clients office about an hour before the shoot to go over last minute details.

We went up the the clients office suite, unpacked our gear and setup for 2 different scenes using their library and an open office. We do our test shots using our 1st or 2nd assistant to make sure that we don’t waste too much of the attorneys time doing test shots and moving lights. We always try to be efficient and our clients appreciate our effort. Today we also worked with the firms new Director of Marketing. I always like working directly with the person making this decision on the images because we can make sure that we are delivering exactly what the client needs and not necessarily our vision.

Having an extra pair of eyes on the shoot is also as plus. Notice the cord under the cabinets on the upper left image? Many photographers would have left the cord there and attempted to remove it in Photoshop or (even worse) left it for the client to handle. I noticed it so I used 2 pieces of Scotch tape to keep it out of the image. We also added a few more books to the scene to keep it from being so “bare”. We call it adding a little visual interest.

Once we were back at the studio we downloaded our images and did an initial edit where we selected ~70 images for the client to review. We uploaded them to our Client Archive for review and the client will make selections over the nest couple of days and get back to us with her choices. Those files will be retouched and we will deliver them as high-resolution files within 2-3 days (often sooner).

If you want to learn how we can provide you with superior image quality, great service, photo management tools with exceptional editing and image processing capability give us a call at202.552.0025. We would love to work with your marketing department to create new and fresh collateral marketing materials for the professionals at your firm.

Last week we were in New York creating environmental portraits for a group of professionals from Berkeley Point Capital. We arrived a day early to scout the location and setup gear (Elinchrom Quadra Rangers  with Photek Softlighter II’s) for the next morning. With the first session at 8:00 am it was important to make sure we had our lighting equipment charged, prepped and ready to go since there was very little time between each session. In addition to my primary shooting set-up I also had my backup gear ready to go. Preparation. Preparation. PREPARATION. We subscribe to two primary rules of great environmental portraiture

1. “Half of all location photography is moving furniture.”

2. “‘Available light’ means ANY light that’s available.

The location was at the Four Seasons (Midtown East) with awesome views of Central Park. We also needed to match images that we created a few month prior at the clients Bethesda, MD headquarters so that added to the complexity of the assignment.  We shot 20-30 frame per person in a variety of poses and the client is selecting 3 finals for each of the 15 executives. We deliver those files in both color and black & white. We deliver the files using the  Rouse Photography Group  Photoshelter archive  which allows for 24/7/365 client access and bulletproof backup.
