Donald Trump has an image, but would it be right for you?

When you see photos of Donald Trump, he usually has a scowl on his face or his mouth is wide open or his hairdo is blowin’ in the wind. That’s his image. I guess he likes it because he perpetuates it.

What is your or your company’s image? Is it what you want it to be? Is it not quite what you want? If not, do you know how to change it?

The best way to project a company’s image is through photographs. Headshots of the people who make up your company will go a long way to tell potential customers or clients just who you are. That image tells the world about the qualities of your company or its products and services.

The right photographer will get to know you so that he or she can capture the look or feel you want to portray, whether yours is the best tattoo parlor around, the best house cleaning service, or the most competent team of  lawyers in the city.

Look around. Do your research. Get educated. Ask the right questions.

Would you go to McDonald’s for fine dining?

I feel comfortable in saying the answer would be a resounding NO. (For the record, we have NOTHING against McDonalds…my twins LOVE their Happy Meals and Yogurt!!!)

You WOULD go to a restaurant that has a reputation for serving a delicious prime rib or delicately prepared fresh salmon or….you fill in the blank.

The same holds true when looking for a professional portrait photographer to capture the images of the people who make up your company. Whether that company is a bank or credit union, university, hospital, law firm, lobbying shop, insurance agency or a political candidate, finding the right photographer and studio is critical.

Just like you wouldn’t go to McDonald’s to enjoy a fine dining experience, you wouldn’t go to a photo booth to take the picture that would appear with your corporate bio.

Choosing the right photographer should be done carefully and after some research.

That photographer may not always be the least expensive. When requesting a quote, make sure to compare the details of what is offered.

  • Will you have unlimited use of the images?
  • Are the images retouched and is that included in the price?
  • How long will it take for you or you and your colleagues to receive the finished product?
  • Will you have to go to a studio, or will they come to you?
  • How long have they been in business?

Take the time to make the right choice. It’s important. It’s YOUR brand.

250+ Portrait Sessions for PwC at Georgetown University

Business headshots at Georgetown University

Today we had the pleasure of working with the Campus Recruiting team at PwC during their efforts at Georgetown University where we created 250+ business portraits for students. PwC “gets it” when it comes to setting up and providing an awesome experience for these soon to be professionals.

Nothing beats a crisp, clean, white background when it comes to portraits like this. The background is modern and doesn’t compete with the subject. These students all received the benefit of a great image for use on their social media profiles which should give them a leg-up on their competition when it comes to looking for a job.

This assignment was similar to efforts we’ve done at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and School of Social Work.  We create new business portraits for LOTS of students over a relatively short amount of time.

Business headshots are essential in this day and age.

Some companies and organizations request headshots before hiring, and having a LinkedIn account without a headshot is an easy way for your profile to be overlooked. Providing students with quality headshots even before they graduate we’re giving them a BIG step over the competition. Just make sure you don’t choose the wrong headshot for your profile.

If your career services department is interested in offering this service to your students give us a call at 202-552-0025. We’d love to talk to you.

Do you need a Portrait or Headshot?

You’ve searched the interwebs and looked at your co-workers photos and searched all around LinkedIn. You’ve found a PROFESSIONAL photographer and look at her portfolio, but you still don’t know if you need a portrait or a headshot. I mean…they are the same. Right? WRONG!

A business portrait (also called an executive portrait) generally contains more (see top row) of the subjects body (half, 3/4 or full length). A common variation is the environmental portrait where the subjects surroundings are an integral aspect of the final image.

A head shot or headshot is a specific type of portrait (see bottom row) that realistically demonstrates a person’s appearance for business and professional branding. A headshot should be of the subjects head and shoulder area. It should NOT be half, 3/4 or full length.

Headshots-vs-Portraits

Portraits typically show more of an individuals body and can be anything from 1/2 length to full length or more. A headshot is a “head and shoulders” style image

Don’t Choose the Wrong Profile Photo

We’re experts at shooting and selecting business portraits. Since we specialize in the BUSINESS portrait we’re keenly aware of what looks best on websites, LinkedIn, brochures, etc. Yet we’ve noticed time and time again that if we leave the selection process 100% up to the individual they will frequently select an image that isn’t the “best of the best”. More importantly, if we allow the subject to dictate the way the session goes we would rarely create acceptable images.

I recently found this article on Photo Feeler that explains 3 scientific reason why clients select the wrong profile photo.

Portrait Assignment for The University of Notre Dame

We had the pleasure of crating a new portrait for Notre Dame’s most recent Rhodes Scholar, Alex Coccia, at his home in Washington DC. Talk about IMPRESSIVE! Alex was the ND student body president, lettered as a member of the varsity fencing team (National Champions ’11), led a student campaign against sexual assaults  and also earned a Truman-Albright Fellowship (that’s not all, but we’ll keep it short for this blog.)

If you’re part of a University Public Relations, Media, or Multimedia department feel free to give us a call at 888-984-4777 to discuss your photography needs in the Washington DC area. We’re experts at creating images onsite as well as in our Capitol Hill studio.

Corporate Headshots for the Staff at National Geographic

Today we created new and updated business portraits for 55 of the AWESOME staff members at National Geographic.

I’ll admit it…if we ranked our clients (we would never do that publicly) but if we did…NatGeo would be TOPS on the list. They are the BEST!!! We’ve been working with them for 3+ years and have photographed over 450 people in Washington DC and it never gets old.

After coaching each and every client we sit with them and help them select their favorite image. Trust me when I tell you this is the hard part…but with our guidance and tips plus feedback from the individual we have created a process that works 100% of the time. GUARANTEED.

Corporate Headshots Heads to UMB School of Social Work

Last week we had the opportunity to attend the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) School of Social Work’s Job Fair and shoot headshots for the students. Needless to say it was a busy day and we ended up shooting 98 students in just under 2 and half hours! The line was down the hall within minutes of us setting up and many students thanked us for providing such a great service.

PAL_2075We’ve cultivated a fantastic relationship creating portraits for UMB over the past few years. This was our first time working with the School of Social Work, but we have also created great headshots for UMB Pharmacy and the School of Law multiple times in the past. We look forward to shooting more great headshots with them in the future!
